What Makes a Great Abstract?  Common Pitfalls  Special Considerations for Asia Pacific Submitters
  • A great abstract tells a complete scientific story, with:
    • Clear Purpose
    • Sound Methods
    • Meaningful Results
    • Evidence-Based Conclusion
  • Clear, concise writing with logical organization.
  • Focused message that emphasizes the most important findings.
  • Unclear research question or objective
    • The purpose does not clearly explain why the study was conducted or what question is being answered.
  • Methods lack sufficient detail
    • Key information about the study population, design, statistical analysis, or methodology is omitted, making it difficult for reviewers to assess the scientific rigor.
  • Results are incomplete or too vague
    • Conclusions are presented without supporting data.
    • Statements such as "results will be presented" or "analysis is ongoing" significantly weaken the submission.
  • Failure to follow the required abstract structure
    • Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusion are not clearly addressed or are disproportionately developed.
  • Poor use of the character limit
    • Spending too many characters on background information leaves insufficient space for methods and results.
    • Forgetting that titles, headings, tables, and images all count toward the character limit.
  • Including unnecessary tables or figures
    • Tables or images consume 320 characters each and should only be included if they add meaningful scientific value.
  • Selecting the wrong category or practice area
    • Choosing a category that does not align with the research may result in assignment to reviewers with less relevant expertise.
  • Waiting until the last minute
    • Technical issues, payment problems, or missing information can prevent successful submission before the deadline.
  • "My center is too small."
    • Small centers CAN answer important questions.
  • "My English is not good enough."
    • Clear English is enough.
  • "Our experience is too local"
    • That is ACTUALLY why the world needs to hear it.
  • "No famous collaborators."
    • Reviewers score the science, not the name.
