Do I need to be an ISHLT member to submit an abstract?

No, membership is not required to submit an abstract.

How much does it cost to submit an abstract?

The abstract submission fee is $25 USD per abstract (non-refundable).

Can I submit the same abstract more than once?

No. You may submit your abstract only once. Submitting the same abstract multiple times, or splitting one study into multiple submissions, is not allowed. If submissions are found to be too similar or duplicated, they may be rejected.

When is the abstract submission deadline?

The deadline for abstract submission is 14 October, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. ET / 15 October, 2025 at 3:59 UTC.

When is the deadline for submitting a Late-Breaking Clinical Science abstract?

All late-breaking abstracts must be submitted by the 14 October deadline and will serve as a placeholder for the final abstract. At this stage, only a placeholder abstract is required, including the Purpose, Methods, and planned Endpoints—final data and results are not needed yet. This allows us to reserve space for your late-breaking research while giving you time to finalize your analysis. Final results and conclusions are due no later than 16 March, 2026.

What are ISHLT's policies for submitting abstracts?

Is there a character limit or image file size limit?

The character limit for an abstract is 2,140 characters (spaces are ignored). This count includes characters in the Abstract Title, Abstract Body, Table(s), and Image(s). Author names and institutions are not counted. A table or image will remove 320 characters from the character limit. (Note: the amount of data in the table does not make a difference to the character count.)

Is there a limit to the number of authors that can be listed on an abstract?

There is a limit of 50 authors listed on an abstract. Co-authors included should be those who contribute significantly to the intellectual content of the abstract.

What graphics formats are acceptable?

BMP, GIF, JPG, and PNG formatted graphic files can be uploaded during abstract submission.

Which browsers are supported?

The following browsers and their latest release are recommended for use:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari
Can I edit an abstract I've already submitted? What if I've already paid the submission fee?

You can edit your abstract (even after paying the submission fee) until the deadline of 14 October, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. ET / 15 October at 3:59 UTC. After this deadline, abstracts cannot be edited.

Can I submit a case report?

Individuals in the early stages of their careers (whose professional training was completed six or less years ago) and trainees (including medical students) are eligible to submit and present case reports.

Will I receive an email confirmation after submitting an abstract?

Confirmation emails are not sent automatically, but you can request an email confirmation of your submission by clicking the appropriate link on the site after your submission is marked COMPLETE.

When will I receive a notification of acceptance or rejection?

The person designated as the Presenting Author will receive a status notification of acceptance or rejection by 19 December. It is their responsibility to notify all co-authors of the submission’s outcome.

If my abstract is accepted for presentation, do I have to register for ISHLT2026?

Yes. Presenting Authors of accepted abstracts must register for and attend the meeting in person. Registration fees are not waived for presenters. Registration will open in January 2026.

If I need to withdraw my abstract, what should I do?

If your abstract is accepted, the Presenting Author will receive a presentation invitation on 5 January, 2026 at which time they have until 30 January to confirm or withdraw the presentation.

Will travel grants be offered this year?

Yes, ISHLT will be offering Travel Grants to attend the ISHLT2026 Annual Meeting. Information will be posted to the website as it becomes available.
