During the 45th Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions in Boston, ISHLT announced $250,000 USD in grants funded by the ISHLT Foundation to support research to advance heart and lung disease.

The ISHLT International Thoracic Organ Transplant (TTX) Registry hosted a special session at ISHLT2025 in Boston to highlight the recent progress in international data sharing with the ISHLT Registry following the challenges of evolving privacy regulations.

On 30 April, at the closing General Session at the ISHLT 45th Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions in Boston, the ISHLT Foundation announced Daniel Goldstein, MD from Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY USA as the 2025 recipient of the Francis D. Pagani, MD Endowed Mentorship Award.

At the ISHLT Annual Meeting in Boston, Jitte Jennekens shared that the HOPE technique safely preserves donor lungs outside the body for up to 20 hours. In a study of 12 HOPE cases, all lungs were successfully transplanted with outcomes matching traditional methods, showing promise for extended lung preservation.

At the ISHLT Annual Meeting in Boston, Dr. Angela Lorts stressed the need for pediatric-specific MCS devices, as current adult devices are used off-label for children, leading to safety concerns and supply issues. She introduced the ACTION Network to improve awareness and collaborate on better solutions.

Ten years after its introduction, heart donation after circulatory death (DCD) has significantly boosted transplant rates, with many centers reporting a 30% increase. Proven as effective as traditional methods, DCD is now widely adopted and continues to expand access to life-saving heart transplants.
