Out with the Old, In with the New: Strategies to Increase Lung Transplantation
18 June, 2025 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EDT

Donor organ shortage and under-utilization of donor lungs remain obstacles to achieving a world where every candidate receives a lung transplant. In this webinar, a variety of strategies will be explored that may improve lung utilization and allocation. The webinar kicks off with a discussion of newer modeling strategies to better match donor lungs with recipients in highest need. This is followed by a review of the experience in the Netherlands of switching from an opt-in system to an opt-out system for organ donors. The webinar concludes with a debate of the relative benefits of cold static storage vs. ex vivo lung perfusion for increasing donor lung utilization. Time is reserved at the end for a live Q&A with the speakers.
