ISHLT Convenes Expert Webinar on Lung CAS Policy Change as OPTN Comment Window Closes
WEBINAR: Navigating the Lung Composite Allocation Score (CAS) Policy Change
Thursday, 25 June | 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. ET / 18:30 – 20:00 UTC
With the U.S. OPTN public comment period for the newly implemented Lung Composite Allocation Score (CAS) policy open through 3 July, the ISHLT Advanced Lung Failure and Transplant (ALFTX) Interdisciplinary Network is convening an expert webinar to help the transplant community understand what's changing, and what's at stake.
The free, 90-minute program is open to clinicians, researchers, administrators, patients, and advocates. The Lung CAS policy introduces significant changes to how donor lungs are allocated in the United States, and as the comment deadline approaches, the webinar offers a timely and comprehensive look at the policy from multiple angles, including:
- The development of the Lung CAS framework, its structural safeguards, and future considerations for allocation policy
- The emergency action and proposed policy modification, including potential impacts on transplant candidates and recipients
- The role of geographic distance in allocation and why understanding regional effects is critical when evaluating the proposed changes
- Insights from the European experience with organ allocation systems
- The patient advocacy perspective and the importance of patient-centered policy development
The session will close with a live Q&A, giving attendees direct access to the expert panel.
A recording will be made available on the ISHLT YouTube channel for those unable to attend live. Registration is free but required — sign up at members.ishlt.org/upcoming-events.
