ISHLT2026 Preconference Day: Workshops For Trainees

Trainees can experience immersive learning at one of the ISHLT workshops taking place on Tuesday, 21 April in Toronto just before the 46th Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions.
2026 ISHLT Trainee Workshop
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. ET
Presented by the ISHLT Foundation + Supported by Natera
Those wrapping up their training in advanced heart and lung failure will learn skills for getting started with a job in transplant or research, with global perspectives from those at different phases of their career.
All registrants for the ISHLT Trainee Workshop will be reimbursed for a one-night hotel stay. Trainees should also plan to return for the Early Career and Trainee Welcome reception at 6:00 p.m. ET.
2026 ISHLT Thoracic Recovery Course – Hands-on Experience
8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. ET
Supported by TransMedics, Inc.
This comprehensive, hands-on training is designed for cardiothoracic surgery trainees. Combining expert-led lectures and hands-on practical training performing thoracic organ retrieval from both DBD and DCD models, the program will enhance participants’ proficiency in donor organ recovery, ex-situ preservation, and transplantation decision-making. Scrubs and instruments will be provided.
This workshop is capped at 25 maximum attendees. Attendees should also plan to return to the Convention Centre for the Early Career and Trainee Welcome reception at 6:00 p.m. ET.
