ISHLT Standards & Guidelines 2025 Year in Review
As part of its mission, ISHLT engages in the regular development of Professional Guidelines and Consensus Documents regarding professional practice matters and the care of patients with advanced heart and/or lung disease. In 2025, ISHLT published eight documents covering a range of important topics.
“These documents touched all four core therapy focused practice areas of our societies mission in advanced heart and lung disease and will change patient management improving outcomes for years to come,” said Statements & Publications Oversight Committee Chair, Michael Shullo, PharmD. “As an ISHLT volunteer and chair of the Statements & Publications Oversight Committee, I am incredibly impressed by these achievements and thank the members and leadership of the S&G for their tireless and exceptional efforts.”
In 2025, the ISHLT Standards & Guidelines program engaged 169 total participants who represented five continents as well as each ISHLT core therapy and primary specialty.
"In the last year, we have worked with specialists from multiple disciplines to distil complex evidence into clear usable guidance in diverse fields of advanced heart and lung disease, including antibody-mediated rejection in heart transplantation, pediatric heart failure and transplantation, pulmonary hypertension and extracorporeal life support in lung transplantation,” said Standards & Guidelines Committee Chair, Sern Lim, MD. “We will continue to work with members to develop timely, high quality, and accessible documents to deliver on the strategic goals of the Society.”
Later this month, ISHLT will be posting a call for volunteers interested in serving on the writing committee of upcoming ISHLT documents, and seeking applications for the next S&G Committee Chair. For additional information on either of these opportunities, please visit the Volunteer Portal on the ISHLT website.
