Coming Up on ISHLTv: NRP at the Heart of DCD
The Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation Interdisciplinary Network will present an educational webinar on ISHLTv discussing emerging practices, outcomes, and ethical considerations surrounding the use of normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplantation.
NRP at the Heart of DCD: Challenges and Opportunities
Tuesday, 13 January | 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET / 19:00-20:00 UTC
This webinar provides a comprehensive overview of emerging practices, outcomes, and ethical considerations surrounding the use of normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplantation.
Expert faculty will compare current DCD recovery pathways, highlighting the technical workflow and growing adoption of NRP. Evidence from institutional and registry data will be reviewed to contextualize NRP outcomes relative to both direct procurement and traditional DBD transplantation.
The session will also explore the ethical dimensions of NRP—including debates on reestablishing circulation, regulatory variation, and communication with donor families—offering practical guidance for transparent and ethically grounded program development.
Together, these presentations will provide participants with a clear, balanced understanding of the clinical, scientific, and moral considerations shaping the future of DCD heart transplantation.
A full list of presenters will be announced soon.
ISHLTv webinars from the Interdisciplinary Networks are exclusively for ISHLT members. It is free to attend, but registration is required. A recording of the webinar will be available on YouTube for anyone who can’t attend it live.
