Banner for ISHLT en EspañolISHLT en Español has been an informal community for Spanish-speakers within the Society since early in 2021. The group presented sessions at the ISHLT Annual Meeting, hosted multiple highly attended webinars, translated educational materials, and helped ISHLT connect with Spanish-speaking organizations and events in South America. In January the Board of Directors approved a charter to formalize the ISHLT en Español, including a steering committee, with representatives from ISHLT’s ten Professional Communities, Headshot of Paola Moregon Barragan representation on the ISHLT Interdisciplinary Network Steering Committees, and a representative to the ISHLT Leadership Advisory Forum. Paola Morejón Barragán, MD of Clínica Guayaquil Servicios Médicos S.A. in Guayaquil, Ecuador, will serve as the inaugural chair, and Maria Crespo, MD of Penn Lung Transplant Program in Philadelphia, will serve as the vice chair. The rest of the Committee will be constituted following the Annual Meeting in Prague. Board member Marta Farrero Torres, MD, PhD (Barcelona, Spain) has been a driving force behind the group’s creation and formalization.
