When One Organ Is Not Enough: Decision-Making in Multi-Organ Transplantation

This webinar will explore the complex decision-making involved in multi-organ transplantation for patients with advanced heart disease and liver and kidney dysfunction. Using a clinical case, experts will discuss how to distinguish reversible from irreversible organ dysfunction, determine when combined heart–liver–kidney transplantation is appropriate, and address candidate selection, timing, and multidisciplinary planning. The program will also examine surgical and perioperative challenges, including hemodynamic and right ventricular management, bleeding, coagulopathy, renal support, and early graft dysfunction, followed by a discussion of immunological considerations, donor–recipient matching, rejection surveillance, and long-term immunosuppression management.
