At their industry symposium at ISHLT2025, Teleflex reviewed intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs) and the important role they play supporting patients. Initially, IABP use was driven by necessity, providing essential hemodynamic support in high-risk cardiac cases. Over time, IABP has evolved, and data has shown that patients, especially pre-transplant, have the potential to be optimized by hemodynamic support through IABP therapy.

Today, advancements in IABP therapy have led to more refined strategies, including individualized approaches to optimize support duration and patient stability. There has also been the implementation of femoral ambulation, allowing select patients to maintain mobility while on IABP therapy.

Through the support of Teleflex, this session is now available for you to view on demand. Watch this expert-led session that explores the evolution of IABP management in transplant patients, discuss the latest strategies, and examine what the future holds for this critical therapy.
