ISHLT Welcomes New Board Members

ADDISON, TX – 19 May, 2020 – The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) announced the election of seven new board members and officers.

Headshot of Joseph RogersJoseph Rogers, MD, begins his term as ISHLT President. Dr. Rogers is a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine and Chief Medical Officer at the Duke University Health System, Durham, NC, U.S.

“I am honored to serve and lead ISHLT,” Rogers said. “The Society has provided me with invaluable support and resources over the years, and I am excited to have the opportunity to give back.”

Dr. Rogers’ research focuses on clinical aspects of advanced heart failure, including investigative interests in pharmacologic and electrical treatments of systolic heart failure, the use of mechanical circulatory support devices, cardiac transplantation and palliative care.

Dr. Rogers received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Nebraska Omaha, and his fellowship in cardiology at Washington University in St. Louis. He joined the faculty at Duke in 2004.

Headshot of Lara Danziger-IsakovLara Danziger-Isakov MD, MPH, Director of Immunocompromised Host Infectious Disease at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, has been elected President-Elect of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to support ISHLT’s development and serve our community,” said Dr. Danziger-Isakov. “I look forward to driving our new strategic plan and organizational structure, as we continue to expand our work and influence.”

Dr. Danziger-Isakov’s clinical interests include pediatric infectious diseases and infections in immunocompromised patients. Her research interests include outcomes related to infection after pediatric transplantation with an emphasis on pediatric lung transplantation. She is also a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Danziger-Isakov earned her MD at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic followed by a fellowship in infectious disease at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis.

Other newly elected officers include Michael A. Shullo, PharmD (Treasurer) and Christian Benden, MD, FCCP (Secretary).

Newly elected directors include Edward Cantu, III, MD, MSCE, Daniel F. Dilling, MD, Are M. Holm, MD, PhD, Kiran K. Khush, MD, and Tereza Martinu, MD.

The officers and directors were elected by ISHLT members and took office at the end of April. Founded in 1987, ISHLT is the world’s largest multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to improving the care of patients with advanced heart and lung disease.

About the New Board Members

Christian Benden, MD, FCCP is the Senior Medical Consultant at Swisstransplant in Berne, Switzerland.

Edward Cantu, III, MD, MSCE is the Director of Lung Transplant Research, Director of Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion and Associate Director of Lung Transplantation at the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia.

Daniel F. Dilling, MD is the Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of Lung Transplantation at the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Are M. Holm, MD, PhD is the Pulmonologist and Associate University Professor at the Oslo University Hospital in Oslo, Norway.

Kiran K. Khush, MD is the Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California.

Tereza Martinu, MD is a pulmonologist at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
