The purpose of the ISHLT Grants Program is to support research training in heart and lung transplantation as well as end-stage heart and lung diseases so as to encourage the development of clinical or basic science research implications.

Committee Composition
Committee Composition
  • Chair:
    • The chair will serve a two-year term, renewable once.
    • The chair may not be a board member or a member of an IDN Steering Committee.
    • The chair will serve as an ex officio member of the Research Oversight Committee.
  • Vice Chair or Past Chair
    • One year prior to the conclusion of the chair’s term, a vice chair will be appointed by the president to serve as vice chair, with input from the Research Oversight Committee and the current chair and approval of the Executive Committee.
    • The past chair will continue as a member of the Committee for one year, transitioning off when the new vice chair is selected.
  • Four Interdisciplinary Network (IDN) Steering Committee Representatives
    • The Committee will include representatives to each of the Interdisciplinary Network Steering Committees, nominated by the IDN Steering Committees. The IDN representative terms on the committee will run concurrent with their terms on the Steering Committees.
  • 1-2 At-Large Members
    • The committee chair will select additional members-at-large to balance representation of ISHLT constituencies. At Large members serve two-year terms, renewable once.
  • The Executive Committee will approve the proposed Committee members.
  • The CEO will designate an ISHLT staff member to support the committee.
  • One member of the committee will also serve as a member of the board of the ISHLT Foundation.

  1. Award and Grant Selection
    1. Assist in the identification of expert review panels for each award and grant program.
    2. Review grant and award applications to ensure that all requirements are met before the applications are forwarded to the expert review panel for scoring .
    3. Committee members select awardees based on the scores and comments of the review committee, including determining a winner in the event of a tie score or very close scores.
  2. Program Standardization and Improvement
    1. Review/revise overall Grants and Awards policies/procedures/appendices and proposals for individual grants, as needed.
    2. Review ISHLT’s overall grants and awards programs and timelines and recommend modifications/new proposals, as needed.
    3. Review/revise standardized forms to be used by reviewers, including a core set of questions for all awards and unique questions based on the criteria for each award or grant proposal.
  3. New Grant and Award Development
    1. Develop proposals for new ISHLT grants and awards, in collaboration with the funding partner.
    2. Develop grant applications, including applicant criteria, for newly created grants and awards and send to the Research Oversight Committee for final approval.
  4. ISHLT Foundation Support
    1. Coordinate work with the ISHLT Foundation as needed.
