There are four categories of ISHLT membership:
- Physician Membership is open to all individuals actively engaged in transplantation medicine or related medical or commercial fields. Physician members may vote, hold office, and serve on committees.
- Non-Physician Membership is open to all individuals actively engaged in transplantation medicine or related medical or commercial fields and who are not physicians. Non-Physician members may vote, hold office, and serve on committees.
- Trainee Membership is open to all individuals in training (residents, fellows, medical students, nursing students, graduate students). Membership must be accompanied by an annual submission of a letter from the trainee’s institution documenting their status as an individual in training. Trainee Members have no voting rights and may not hold office, but they may serve on committees.
- Retired Membership status shall be considered for all members who communicate such request to the Board of Directors, who have been members in good standing with the Society for the 10 years immediately prior to and at the time of the request for retired status, and who have retired. Annual membership dues shall be waived for Retired Members. Retired Members will receive limited member benefits determined by the Board. They do not receive the JHLT, are not eligible to vote, may not hold office or other Society leadership positions, may serve on committees with Board approval, if their unique expertise is needed, and will be identified as retired members in the membership directory.
Requests for Retired Membership are considered annually by the Board of Directors at the first board meeting of the calendar year, typically in January. Individuals who retire during the calendar year after paying membership dues for the year will not be considered for Retired Membership until such meeting. For more information about Retired Membership, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Emeritus standing may be conferred upon Retired Members who have made extraordinary contributions to the Society. Emeritus standing is granted at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors. For more information about Emeritus standing, email email@example.com
ISHLT membership is offered on a calendar year basis, January 1 through December 31. Dues are prorated to 50% for individuals joining after June 30. Individuals joining after August 31 must pay a full year's dues, but will receive membership for the remainder of the year and the following year.
ISHLT offers reduced membership dues for individuals residing or working in middle- and low-income economies, as defined by The World Bank. For a list of countries and their associated economies, click here
