ISHLT Funds Five International Travel Scholarships to Enhance Global Collaboration
The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) is awarding five members with the ISHLT International Visiting Scholarship. These scholarships facilitate the exchange of knowledge and techniques regarding the treatment of end stage heart and lung failure and transplantation to build relationships between individuals, institutions, and countries.

Dr. Wolner will use the scholarhip to obtain advanced, hands-on training in translational heart transplantation research—and to gain exposure to cutting-edge tolerance-inducing strategies that are not available at his home institution.

Dr. Kipiani will use the scholarship to study with some of the world’s foremost leaders in advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and transplantation. This training experience will allow him to observe and learn from a high-volume LVAD and transplant program, including multidisciplinary team coordination, patient selection, perioperative management, long-term follow-up, and integration of VAD coordinators into the care pathway. Dr. Kipiani hopes this exposure will be invaluable in shaping the development of similar programs in Georgia.

Host Institution: New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Irving Medical Center | New York, NY USA
Dr. Einsfeld will use the scholarship to experience how transplant pharmacy is delivered at one of the world’s leading and most experienced transplant centers, and to bring this knowledge back to Brazil to improve patient outcomes and advance transplant services across the country.

Dr. Montagne will use the scholarship to visit three lung transplant centers to witness how these institutions operate on a daily basis to achieve success in clinical care, research, innovation, and affordability within their healthcare and economic systems. Dr. Montagne will also identify potential centers where patients from countries without established lung transplant programs could be referred for care.

Dr. Mihai will use the scholarhip to learn how to use the advanced prediction tool PHORA and evaluate its performance in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertesion. The aim of this collaboration is to deliver more accurate and personalized patient assessments, ultimately improving treatment decisions and outcomes for individuals living with this challenging condition.
