The ISHLT bestows one or more of the following awards to individuals who have made landmark contributions to improving the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease and/or have made significant contributions to the Society. This award replaces the , the and the . It is bestowed on an individual whose lifetime body of work has made significant contributions toward improving the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease, engaged in pioneering work that improved the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease, OR is representative of outstanding dedication and service to the Society.
This award was presented to James K. Kirklin, MD in April 11, 2014, in recognition of his outstanding educational leadership and achievements on behalf of the Society .
Emeritus Membership is bestowed by the Board of Directors upon individuals who are active members of the Society in good standing, who have retired from active practice, and who, in the estimation of the Board, have made significant contributions to the Society.
