Opening Plenary Session (Grand Caribbean 1-7)
Join ISHLT President Jeffrey J. Teuteberg, MD, and 2019 Scientific Program Chair Lara Danziger-Isakov, MD, MPH, as they welcome reports from ISHLT leaders, including reports from the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Heart and Lung Transplantation, Mandeep R. Mehra, MD, the IMACS Registry Chair, Daniel J. Goldstein, MD, and the International Thoracic Organ Transplant Registry Chair, Josef Stehlik, MD, MPH.
Lifetime Achievement Award
John Wallwork, FRCS, FmedSci, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, for his pioneering work as a cardiothoracic surgeon in Europe. Wallwork performed Europe's first successful combined heart-lung transplant in 1984, and in 1986 performed the world's first heart-lung and liver transplant with Sir Roy Calne. He is currently the Chairman of Royal Papworth Hospital.

Keynote: Countdown to Teamwork
NASA Astronaut Mike Mullane, an inductee of the International Space Hall of Fame, will share insights into successful teamwork and leadership in a keynote-style address. Col . Mullane’s expertise flows from a unique career, including flying combat reconnaissance missions over Vietnam and manning three Space Shuttle missions. Col. Mullane has also received numerous prestigious commendations and authored several critically acclaimed books.

President’s Debate: Resource Limits: It’s Time to Abandon Retransplantation, where Andrew J. Fisher, FRCP, PhD, and Josef Stehlik, MD, MPH will debate the merits and drawbacks of retransplantation in the current era of limited organs and resources.
